Four years ago, The Plains of Golden Horses was a beautiful, thriving land. It was filled with wolves of strength, intelligence, and grace, something said to be a trait gifted from the Sacred Palomino Horses who call the Plains home.
Residing beside the Horses, was the Palosia Pack. In the pack, the Alpha and Alphess's only pup and Heir, Lyre, began searching for a mate. He was now an adult at two years old, and very handsome. A catch to any female, especially since they would eventually became the other half of the lead pair.
One day, three wolves came to the Plains. The Alpha Pair accepted them, and they were soon intergrated into the pack. They were a male and two she-wolves; an elderly mother, her daughter, and her son. Lyre was smitten by the beautiful snow-white daughter. After a very quick courtship that lasted two weeks, the young female, Myda, became the mate to Lyre.
After two months, a prairie fire ripped through the camp, killing many wolves. That included Lyre's parents and Myda's mother and brother. They became the Alpha Pair.
Soon after, a huge black wolf by the name of Par caught the eye of the Alphess. He was a Warrior, powerful and deadly. Myda fell for him. She left her pack and her mate to be with Par.
Lyre was crushed. His fabulously lovely mate, leaving? It was shocking. The Alpha set out with a search party. After killing Par, he turned on Myda.
She pleaded for her life, crushed to the ground. The former Alphess wailed that she was pregnant, and that they were Lyre's.
Torn between the want to kill her or return her home, the pale wolf went half way: He left her on the ground.
As soon as he returned home, Lyre changed the laws. Males would able to have more then one mate, but if a female did, she would die. If a she-wolf had pups without a mate, she would be killed after the pups were born. They could not be Warriors or Doctors, either. All females that were must become a Hunter or a Lady.
Mosty importantly, there would be no Alphess. Lyre would be soul ruler.
Such is the story of what is called, "The Great Change of Palosia".
