This is the current ranks and rank explanations for the pack of Alio. PM me about any questions you may have regarding ranks please. Note that this is subject to change any time I feel is necessary. You may want to check every once and awhile to see if any changes have been made to ranks.
Ranks and Rank Explanations:[/u]
Upper Ring:
Alphess/Alpha- There is only one main alpha/alphess (depending on gender) in the pack of Alio. Meaning the Alpha and Alphess (meaning if there a mated pair) do not rule together, in fact the really is no Alpha if there's an Alphess even if she has a mate and vice versa. They are basically the main leader of the entire pack, and are well respected by pretty much everyone and held in high regard. The Alpha/Alphess has a council were she/he can consult & discuss heavily important matters with council members. This is so decisions are made with absolute sincerity, with point of views from more than just one head. Besides that, the Alphess/Alpha can take a mate permanently or take as many as he/she wishes. Besides matters the leader is unsure of, he/she pretty much reigns over.
Betess- The second highest ranking female in the pack, but in some cases holds mostly a ceremonial rule. Traditionally this female is either chosen as Beta by her alphess or is in some way shape of form a relative of the alphess/alpha. Sometimes, in the odd case, she is chosen by the council. Extremely knowledgeable often times in many fields and valued for there experience. A member of the council.
Beta- He is pretty much either top ranking male or second to third highest, depending on the Betess, alpha/alphess and his peers. He often times is mated to the Betess, but its not uncommon for them not to be mates. He assists the Betess and is kind of like a general or admiral. He is quick to react and is charged with instructing the pack when both the Betess and alphess are away. He is responsible for planning many ceremonial traditions. He is also a prime member of the council. A prestigious male indeed he must be.
Advisor- This wolf, is THE foremost, and most trusted wolf by the alphess/alpha, he she needs to be, or else the Advisor wouldn't be so close to the alphess/alpha most of the time. They are the alphesses/alphas right hand wolf, ready to assist them any time, any day. They almost never leave there leaders side! They are there to give there leader support and comfort, not to mention good advice on pack matters, as if the council already wasn't enough. They are chosen obviously by the Alphess/Alpha and are in some cases, a relative or close friend to the alphess/alpha.
The Council:
Head Councilwulf- The Head Councilwulf is chosen by the Alphess/Alpha in power once the alpha/alphess takes power. He/she is obviously head of council, and not just in title. He/she is most likely to be an older wolf, if not elderly and very experienced with the ways of Alio. They hold the power to convene meetings with his/her subordinates (Council members), call and meet privately with the alphess/alpha and is very much respected by his/her pack. He/she will be replaced with the next Head Councilwulf when a new alphess/alpha comes to power and chooses a new one, or, the new alphess/alpha can decided to keep the old Head Councilwulf.
Council Members- The council members are the wolves who are honorable and trusted enough by the members of Alio to be elected into there spot, meaning the Alio pack members, those over a year old, vote for there council members to represent them. It is a yearly event and its a big thing, many members will try and campaign for a spot in the council. Its a great honor. They help discuss matters with the Head Councilwulf and Alphess/alpha over a variety of pack members while representing the interests of those who elected them. There are 5 spots for this rank for wolves to be elected into.
Main Pack Of Alio (Listed in Order of Dominance From Here on:
Guards- They are not exactly Warriors or Knights or something like that, but they are 'fighter' types most often. Those with this rank are the ones who guard the alphess/alpha on journeys, and stand vigil at night for the camp. They are fairly experienced and this rank is a bit prestigious, considering the few number of them. They are not afraid of death and are often times more than willing to risk there life for there alpha/alphess.
Espionage/Spy's- Just as the name says, they are the stealthy, sly and sneaky wolves, who are often sent on missions ranging from assassination (Which is very rare comparatively for the Alio pack to do such a thing, mind you.) to eavesdropping on other packs for information. They report directly to the alpha/alphess and are trained specifically from 2 months of age. It can not just be 'earned'. These wolves must have been trained in the art of stealth and such. Think ninjas. The often times work in pairs or small teams for back up.
Ambassadors/Diplomats- These are tactful, sometimes refined & disciplined, and at other times manipulative, wolves of Alio, usually. They are negotiators for the pack and preside over meetings between Alio & other packs. They are often sent out on diplomatic missions, whether it be to from a peace treaty or alliance or solve a problem, they have the wit & intelligence to do it. These wolves generally under direct orders form the council or Alphess/Alpha, the Beta, Betess & Advisor have little power over them. They are well-respected and often liked for there peaceful status & are high ranked. Expect to see them in & out just about as often as the Messengers. However, there life is often on the line if in enemy territory...
Scholars/Scribes- Wolves who have no interest in much physical work or are looking for more intellectual pursuits are most likely to be found here. Despite there seemingly uselessness to the pack (Let's face it, do you see them doing much work besides writing on tree bark or dirt? Or lounging, looking up into no where?), they are very important to Alio packs intelligence and record keeping. They record all information and study a multitude of things, from new herbs to new battle tactics, all for the progress of learning and advancing in science and knowledge for the packs. They are to record anything told by there higher ups to record and have keen observation skills. They are most often found to have a very large, and confusing vocabulary, its a humorous way at time to tell them apart from others, especially Warriors, who incorporate a bit of slang gin there speech at times. But seriously, if you need info or such, see them, they are your next door librarian or scientist basically.
Herbalist/Healer- They are the wolven trained for medical emergencies and herbal knowledge. Quite skilled at what the do, they are most likely to be found helping the wounded. These are your caring, helpful wolves most of the times, and there can be multiple, more than one at a time. They often times take apprentices under there wings or will teach classes to other wolves to give them a basic field of knowledge. They have a honorable status in the pack.
Warriors/Brigadiers- They are the main fighting force of the pack, so there is quite a few of them honestly. They are initially middle rank in the whole Alio hierarchy, but one can achieve great heroism for admirable accomplishments in combat. They are recognizable often times by being the big strong, stocky wolves in a pack, but not always, some have scars from conflicts. A couple of these wolves use slang in there speech and they are excellent at combat, do not expect an easy win in a fight. Often trained by a more experienced warrior.
Hunters- More often than not, these wolves are a bit sleeker and smaller than there Warrior counterparts. They have an excellent knowledge of the fauna and flora in the surrounding areas, needed for picking out just the right prey for the pack. The are middle to low ranked, but they are skilled and know how to use there claws, how else would they hunt? The point is to gather food for there pack, so they are essential.
Messengers- Messengers have a great duty for relaying messages and such from one wolf to the next in the pack itself, or from the alpha/alphess to a wolf in another pack if needed. Due to this, they are in and out of the packs territory, and depending on the other packs tolerance of such, they could be in danger. But this travel has its advantages, this is ideal for wolves who need room to roam and stretch there legs, freedom loving wolves might also enjoy this for there duties. They mostly have excellent memories as to relay messages accurately. Fast running, thin wolves would be particularly suited for this.
Ladies/Mothers- The mothers or pregnant females above a year of age. Mothers will constantly have there pups romping right at the backs of there paws, so they must be careful. They often have many friend sin the pack and are well liked by most.
Pups- Young wolves who are still learning the ropes of pack life and about life in general. Most trot about the feet of there mothers, there fathers often times busy. However the orphaned pups are assigned a foster mother randomly by the alphess/alpha. There ages range from newborn to a year old.
Elders- The wolves who are in there elder days, and past there working days. While they do retain there knowledge and wisdom gained over the years (At least most do), they will die soon. they are held with high regard due to there experience and often asked for advice by younger pack members. Some are grand mothers or grandfathers.
Pariah- They are non-existent in Alio pack, due to them being for freedom, equality and all that. If a punishment must be handed out, they are simply cast out for a given amount of time or something worse, depending on the offense. Pariah is something the most wolves of Alio either never have heard of or highly dislike, well, sometimes that stray odd foreign spy' speaks of nonsense about how weird it is for them not to have an Omega or Pariah rank...
Evicted/Banned Members- These wolves are no longer welcome in or anywhere near Alio pack territory. These members where the excessive troublemakers of the pack or whom had cause an offense great enough to be exiled form the pack permanently. They are to be captured on sight if seen ever again... however, one might be redeemed if they receive a personal order of forgiveness and redemption from the pack and alpha/alphess him/herself...
The Deceased- Those who have died and were of the pack of Alio, whether it be of a valiant death in battle or a peaceful passing of an old and wise elder. Those who have died are buried after any living family members in the pack have been alerted of the death. For the death of an alpha/alphess or a very important pack member, a ceremony is held in there honor and to mourn there passing...
