Matrix nodded when he saw the pup emerge from the bushes. His eyes stared the young wolf down. "I am going to release the fawn, and you will hunt it," Matrix said, giving the pup brief instructions. If the pup had any questions, he was capable of filling in the holes himself, matrix was sure. "Ready?" he asked pointlessly. Without waiting for an answer, he lifted a his big black paws from the fawns frail body. The fawn stayed down, frozen in shock and disbelief. Matrix let out an amused, playful smile, and let out a fainthearted growl. The fawn cautiously arose, and than bolted, a slight limp to its strides, making it an easy kill for a wolf, even a young wolf. matrix watched the fawn disappear, and than looked at Baeyentide, who looked a bit freaked from the fawns previous submission to death, and said gruffly 'Get going,' to the pup. He turned, getting ready to follow Beayentide and watch from a careful distance.

Baeyentide nodded slowly as if dazed at first at the instructions given to him, very direct & clear to him, a solid reason, good to his mind. Hunt the little fawn. Snapping from his little shell-shocked moment at the order to get going by Matrix, the half year old set out at a trot at first in the direction the young fawn had went. After passing through a few thick shrubs, he spotted and began to pick up on the injured fawn's scent. Similar to the deer scent he had been shown before, except it had a tinge of iron to it... blood? Blood had an iron kind of smell or taste to it, he knew from his own case of bloody scratches from roughhousing when he was a little younger. Seeing the limp in the fawn back leg, he decided to go for it. He began to bolt towards it, hopefully waring it down in the process. Due to this being his first time, he didn't know when to strike, so he let his emerging instinct do the talking for when the time was right.
One thing Baeyentide did know, was that he didn't want to make another stupid mistake like he had before... And he never wanted to submit to death like that fawn had did, ever...

His big paws quickly ferried him over to where Baeyentide was, but kept sure to stay a good distance away from the protégé hunter. He watched the young pups every movement, not letting the fact that this was the pups first hunt ease up his harsh grading and critique. He watched Baeyentides strides change from a trot to a full out run, and watched the pup zero in on his injured prey. Matrix's judgmental green eyes narrowed as he waited for the pup to make his move, something hard to do on the first try, matrix remembered full well... ❄_____It was late summer, and some of the brown leaves were falling off the early autumn trees. They crunched under the young black and white pups big paws as he blundered about with his mentor. The older wolf instructed him to chase down a fawn, and Matrix obediently obeyed. It didn't turn out too well, the fawn was strong and healthy, and even in his youth Matrix wasn't a fast or enduring runner. In the end, he chased the fawn off a small but steep ledge, having the thing fall to its death, and then retrieving the body in a safe way. It should be impressive that he managed to produce a bloodless kill, the fawns body still closed and intact, but that is not the wolf way, and the fawn was looked down upon. It was the first drop of blood that entered a wolfs mouth in the killing bite that matured them into hunters, a step that had to be taken. A step that matrix didn't take. In turn, Matrix had to redo the whole thing, find another fawn, and kill it. At the end of the day, a bloody, torn, utterly mutilated fawn was presented before the elders. His failure gave birth to a great kill, and it taught Matrix to overlook some of the mistakes of others. ❄_____Matrix snapped out of his nostalgic memories, and refocused on his apprentice nearing the fawn. Matrix licked his lips, almost tasting the warm blood that would soon fill Baeyentides own mouth... Focusing his entire attention on the fawn as he approached the injured being, Baeyentide finally saw it with his own two azure eyes. Narrowing his eyes at the fawn to try and block out any possible distraction, he saw it stumble just a bit. Fate was not on the fawn's side today, apparent by its leg and the clear intention of the wolf on its tail. (Or wolves, however you'd like to put it.)
However, Baeyentide was hesitant to strike when the chase became a near grinding halt, as the fawn's back leg gave way once it hit a tree root, stumbling its footing pretty good and causing it to crash a bit into the forest floor. The fawn tried to regain its footing, but the injured leg could, and would not be able to support the fawn's weight any longer. Baeyentide forced himself to make a move, it was now or never.
Romping forward, the pup leaped, if not awkwardly over the large tree root that had tripped the fawn itself. He darted forward quickly toward the fawn, only a few yards away at most by no, hoping to end it quickly. As the fawn saw its fate once more, as it had when beneath Matrix's gaze, its ears flattened back. Baeyentide lunged for its neck, as he had seen practicing wolves do before, though not sure exactly where to aim. As his fangs sang in, the warm red liquid filled his mouth. Not used to the feeling, and confused, maybe a bit frightened, Baeyentide wiggled his head violently, his jaws still clamped on the deer's neck. A sickening snap was heard maybe somewhere, though in his panic, Baeyentide did not know it was over until he saw the fawn not blink again. It was done.

❄_____Matrix watched the awkward lunge from his safe distance, wincing upon seeing the pups unexpected frenzy. It was scary and panic inducing the first few times, but it that frenzy and bloodlust would soon be the best part of the hunt. Once the taste for blood was developed, it was an addiction. Even the taste for wolf blood would become one of the young wolfs drives. Matrix flicked his black ears, hearing a sickening SNAP! as the fawns neck gave out and broke. He nodded slowly, reviewing the apprentices work, keeping the apprentices stumble and deer spooking in the periphery of his mind as he graded the pup. ❄_____Matrix made up his mind. The black and white swirly coated wolf rose to his big black paws, and sweeped over to where the dead fawn lay. "It'll do," Matrix said to Baeyentide, not even looking at the blue pup as he spoke. The words werent said in a disapproving tone, but this certainly wasn't his way of motivating the pup. He grasped the fawns neck in his large jaws, easily clasping his fangs around the tiny broken neck. He turned around and walked away into the bushes, flicking his bushy black and white tail in a summoning way. ❄_____His big paws made crunching sounds on the old shriveled leaves from the autumn season as he walked the best route back to camp. His emerald eyes were focused straight ahead, and his ears pricked and alert in case he should be attacked. It wouldn't be a surprise to him - many wolves were upset with him returning his pack to the ancient ways after several generations of reform. But reform and change isn't always for the better, and this was certainly the case in his opinion. Foreigners bring new disease, and let their strange customs smother out the native ways. And the products of a foreigner with a local wolf were awkward little beasts, filled with tons of different health problems. It wasn't worth it to have that scum around, and he knew for a fact that most of his pack was glad to have an alpha that finally realized this. And support from his pack was all this wolf needed, not even that really. He had the power to do it solo. He glanced over his shoulder in Baeyentides direction, wondering the pups views. If the pup liked foreigners, Matrix would certainly have to sit the pup down and have a little chat with him. All it would take to undo everything Matrix had done to fix the pack would be just a few of the new generation to disapprove, and modify the pack once he was gone. Which made it essential for him to have a powerful heir... but with whom? Matrix crinkled his nose. Picking a mate was always hard for an alpha, and he doubted he would be an exception. ❄_____He smelled the air, and recognized the landmarks. They weren't too far from camp now...
